The Town of Crested Butte
Imagine a town where it takes an hour to walk a few blocks to the Post Office to pick up your mail everyday because you stop along the way to chat with neighbors, where the locals measure how long they have lived in town by the number of winters they have skied, or where you can take your mountain bike out the backdoor and ride single track all day long.
Crested Butte is a unique town that has survived since its mining days of the 1800s, and has transformed into a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The summer weekends are filled with festivals like the Wild Mushroom Festival, the Arts Fair, the local radio station’s Alpine Jam, and the colorful Wildflower Festival in mid-July. When the flowers start to die, and summer turns into autumn, watch the aspen trees turn into a golden yellow blanket covering the mountains. As the snow begins to fall, everyone starts waxing their boards to catch the fresh powder stashes on Mt. Crested Butte and in the backcountry of the Elk Mountains.
So experience the Wild West and the unique character that Crested Butte has to offer by visiting the dining and drinking establishments that line Elk Avenue, browsing through the Crested Butte Heritage Museum, and experiencing the beauty and recreation of the surrounding mountains.
