Planning

Wake up to Crested Butte.

Set in a expansive valley surrounded by wildflower meadows, three wilderness areas, more than a million acres of National Forest and towering 12,000 to 14,000 foot peaks, Crested Butte provides an exhilarating summer experience for all who venture into our valley.

From many of the area's peaks, the most visible signs of humanity are occasional mining relics and old mule-train paths. In the summer, you can take in the views while hiking through high alpine meadows or cruising downhill through lush aspen and pine forests on a mountain bike. Our extensive trail system provides unparalled outdoor adventure for the beginner to the most experienced.

Spend the day fly-fishing the gold-medal rivers for Rainbow trout, riding horseback to a high mountain lake with Fantasy Ranch, or rafting the whitewater of the Taylor River.

For all its wilderness allure, "roughing it" is optional in Crested Butte. Here you'll also find championship golf, world-class music, luxurious lodging, exceptional restaurants, unique art galleries and quaint Victorian storefronts in one of Colorado's largest National Historic Districts.

This mountain town presides over a nature-made playground even Disney would envy - with endless fun, spectacular beauty and not a crowd in sight.

And our local events... well, let's just say they provide a flavor unique to our little paradise and will surely bring a huge smile to your face.
